Professional and Industry Experience

Cynthia has over 17 years experience in Accounting and Tax working in both professional firms and the Kenya Revenue Authority. In the first two years of her career, Cynthia worked as an Accountant. Thereafter, she spent 5 years with the Kenya Revenue Authority where she trained in all taxes and worked in various departments. She thereafter specialised in Customs and Excise enforcement as well as Excise duty modernisation initiatives. She later spent 2.5 years at PKF Tax Advisors in East Africa specialising in Customs and Excise and working on other taxes as part of her role. At PwC, she headed the Customs and Excise practice and was also the lead for client training in tax matters.

Cynthia has, over the years, built an excellent network in Government and private sector circles. She has vast experience dealing with tax authorities in East Africa and has, in the course of her work, represented major brands in negotiations at the Alternative Dispute Resolution body (ADR) and in making technical presentations at the Tax Appeals Tribunal (TAT).

Master of International Customs Law and Administration from the University of Canberra, Australia, Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting option) Degree, CPA Part II, Diploma in Customs and Tax Administration form the Kenya School of Revenue Administration
